Healthy Families
Waitākere
Healthy Families Waitākere partners with local people to bring to life the changes they want to see in schools, workplaces, sports clubs, marae and community spaces.

We work in the places where we live, learn, work and play — shaping healthier environments so people can lead longer, happier and more connected lives.
Our approach is grounded in relationship, place and community leadership.

Building from what's already strong
Our focus is always on what's already working.
Across West Auckland, communities are shaping their own priorities so change is not done to communities, it is created with them:
- movement
- kai and food environments
- culture and identity
- and connection.
Through deep, long-term relationships, we:
- support community-led ideas
- draw in the right partners
- help navigate complex systems.

Commitment to equity and Māori health
We are explicitly committed to improving Māori health and reducing inequity.
This means working to ensure that:
- systems better reflect community realities
- structures are fair and accessible
- and everyone has the opportunity to live well
Equity is not an add-on to our mahi. It sits at the heart.

Part of a national movement
Healthy Families Waitākere is part of the national Healthy Families NZ initiative, led by the Ministry of Health, to improve the wellbeing of children, families and communities.
The initiative works by strengthening the local environments where people live, learn, work, and play, because this is where lasting change happens.
In Tāmaki Makaurau, Healthy Families Waitākere is delivered by Tuia Waitākere, working alongside:
- community
- iwi
- local government
- and sector partners

Together, we are supporting healthier, more connected futures for West Auckland.
If you're part of a community, workplace, school, or organisation seeking to create healthier environments, we'd love to walk alongside you.
